2018 Jan 9, Wheeler Wildlife Refuge Sandhill Crane, & other waterfowl Decatur, Alabama

We ate lunch at Wendy's in Athens. Hubby ordered the four-dollar deal: cheeseburger, fries, chicken nuggets, and a drink. I ordered a junior cheeseburger and a small chocolate Frosty.
Then we rode to the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge via I-65 to Decatur to see  1,000s of Cranes and other waterfowl. We saw hundreds of Mallards, Ducks, and thousands of Cranes, with only three white cranes
It was cold and wet as we walked to the enclosed overlook. There were three people there, one with a telescope and the other two with nice cameras. The young man with the telescope was traveling from Atlanta, Georgia, to Nevada. He said he was ready for a change in his life. It sounded like he was walking away from his personal problems.

Some signs read: U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge, National Wildlife Refuge System, &  the do's and don'ts on the Tennessee River & Decatur and Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge
We were invited to come back on Saturday for their workshop.

We stopped at Flint Creek Trail, which is part of the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge.
Several men were fishing in the frozen Flint Creek. I was standing on the pier, and I heard something crackling below me. It was the frozen ice breaking up. There were several birds and cranes in the shallow water and along the banks.

Watching wildlife can be a lot of fun. Many wildlife creatures are elusive and wary, so you will need to move slowly and quietly to avoid disturbing them. Early morning and late afternoon are usually the best times to see wildlife. A pair of binoculars is helpful.

Even if you do not see the animal, you may see signs of its presence, such as tracks, scat (droppings), or feathers. And listen...in nature, you can hear a symphony of sounds.

Gray Squirrel, Eastern Box Turtle, Downy Woodpecker, Wood Duck, Eastern Garter Snake, Cooper's Hawk, White-tailed Deer, Common Five-lined Skink
I saw a sign that read: Alligators may live here. This is something you never want to run across while bird-watching.

Warning: it is UNLAWFUL to feed alligators!

We also stopped at the Wheeler Wildlife Complex, where we saw signs that read: U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service Hunting, Fishing; Water level management and farming; map of the refuge and boating.

We rode through Decatur, turning on the road that once housed the Paper Mill. My Hubby said to me that we might see a hawk or a Bald Eagle. We searched every tree and along every power line. We were nearing the Paul Bunyan power line, and I asked Hubby what that thing was on the power pole. We turned around to see a Bald Eagle sitting up on top of a Bald Eagle. He gave me a wink as if to say, I am on the lookout for food.

Bald Eagle
We stopped at Wheeler Dam, another great place to see a variety of birds. The power lines sitting in the river and the island were covered in white and blackbirds. There were waterfowl swimming, fishing, and flying over the Tennessee River.
A bird was sitting on most of the light poles as we crossed the dam.

Ate dinner at Walton's Restaurant, and Hubby ordered a New York strip, salad ðŸ¥—, and baked potato 🥔.
I ordered a Ribeye steak salad and iced tea.

It rained on us on our way to Decatur, and it was cloudy all day, not the best day for taking pictures. We still had a great day, and before we arrived home, it was dark.

2017 Christmas Letter

Christmas Letter
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

I hope this letter finds your family doing well.
This is to inform you about the events that occurred in 2017.

My sister lost her husband (age 68) in April to a heart attack.
He awoke from sleep, called out to my sister, and said I have a heart attack, and before she could get help, he was gone. He had been having some health issues and had seen a doctor.
He was a retired railroad engineer and a farmer.
Vicki raised vegetables and sold them at the farmer's market. He was very active in farming, raising mules, and participating in his community.

On December 16, Dad was admitted to the Hospital. December 21, I took Dad to Rehab.
Dad stayed in Rehab from December 21 to February 11. Dad turned 90 this year and could no longer live alone, so he moved in with my sister. While Dad was in Rehab, a minister came by and talked to him. Dad said that man changed my life; I was saved, and he has been going to church with me and my sister ever since.

🚗 2006 June 18-25, Trip to Florida Lora's Version

Sunday, June 18, 2006
We arrived in Florida early. The Welcome Center was beautiful. I love Palm Trees and other tropical plants. We were all very sleepy. We checked into RMH at 7:45 A.M.
(They had three Beanie Babies on the bed for them.)
We ended up at Arnold Palmer Hospital because Meadow continued to vomit and did not feel well. Marcus also got an ant bite; his left foot swelled on top and got puffy. The doctor decided not to admit Meadow. He told me to bring her back if she did not get better. I should have had Ketones in her urine. She also had a very low CO2 level (8%). Marcus got a dose of Clindamycin & an RX.
We also gave him Benadryl. That concluded our first day in FL. Pokie had to check out the hospital facilities to ensure they were suitable.

Clindamycin is used to treat bacterial infections. It may be given to patients who have had an allergic reaction to penicillin. However, it will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

We met Roberta, her PT, on our first day at Ability & their Meadow. She is very good with Meadow. Meadow fussed a lot when placed in a position she did not like. She looked so cute in the little suit! We got some pictures. We went to Steak & Shake for lunch. It was our first day at Dr. Bradstreet's office for HBOT. I got in the chamber with Meadow. She got in the soft tank. They gave her Baby Einstein DVDs to watch. She fell fast asleep. However, I thought my head was going to explode. My ears started stopping up, and pressure shot like a sharp pin down behind my ears and neck. I got on the walkie-talkie and said, "How long will this pain last?" She told me to hold my nose and blow. The pressure was not relieved. Then I got hot and felt like I was having a panic attack. She told me to face toward the end where the air was blowing, and once it was fully pressurized, the pain should stop. When it was fully pressurized, I felt better. I lay my head and took the best nap I had in a long time. In the afternoon, we went back to the RMH and had supper. We ate vita, salad & brownies. The kids played in the playroom, and we went to sleep.
After therapy, we went to Melbourne Beach. The kids loved the ocean. They played in the waves and sand. Madison found some seashells. Meadow liked the water, too. The kids got more Beanie Babies.
Tuesday, June 20, 2006
Madison woke up vomiting. She slept all morning. We went to therapy. Meadow was much better today and more tolerant of the treatment. She likes to jump on the spider. Marcus and I boxed Hulk gloves. Madison lay on the floor on Elmo's mat and slept. Mom got in the HBOT Chamber with Meadow. I slept on the couch in the playroom with Madison. A little boy jumped up on me while I was asleep, and I thought it was Bucko! We went to RMH after all therapy because Madison was sick. The Belles & Beaus of the Chiropractic Club of Orlando had a Hawaiian lei feast with chicken curry rice, salad, fruit delight, and a veggie tray. Delaney took Marcus for a ride in her wheelchair at the RMH.

Wednesday, June 21, 2006
Madison felt better this morning. We, too, Meadow, for their suit therapy. Marcus played on the GameCube. We went to lunch at Olive Garden. We then went to HBOT. I got into the chamber with Meadow and took a nap. I still felt the pressure. I was not as anxious this time because I knew what to expect. We visited Andretti Thrill Park and rode the go-karts. This man took us on a train ride. I didn't think he was ever going to stop! We rode the bumper boats again; Marcus rode with a teenage girl, and Madison rode with a teenage boy! We had fun. Marcus played a game where he shot a rifle, and a butt popped up with blue jeans on, but you could see his crack! It was hot outside. The kids are making friends at RMH.

Thursday, June 22, 2006
Today at Suit Therapy, Meadow was cranky. She woke up early this morning. Zac is the other child getting treatment from the other PT. She is from Holland. Zac is autistic. He is seven years old. After treatment, we went to an authentic Italian Restaurant. We ordered a pizza with spinach, mushrooms, and Pepperonis. Granny went into the chamber with Meadow today, and  Madison talked to Granny on the walkie-talkie.
After HBOT, we went to Dixie Stampede. We got there early and went to the horse stables. There was a white horse with spots and a big albino horse. Then we went inside. The lobby featured a large painting of a buffalo and horses. Then we went to the carriage room. Mrs. Dixie played it again, and Sam performed. There was a magic show, too. In the main arena, we had a huge dinner. Madison and Marcus received a call (Meadow was announced) to the arena on the Northside to chase chickens. Bucko was the first one to make it. They both got ribbons and medallions. After the show, the cast called us for a VIP meeting for pictures. The girls all wanted to hold Meadow. We went into the center arena and took pictures. One of the crew members gave the kids coloring books. The host gave Meadow a ribbon-like Maddie & Bucko. They told me they would mail us a picture and have all of them sign it. We had a really good time!

Friday, June 23, 2006
Meadow was worn out after her first week of therapy. We went to Winter Park and watched a live Marionette performance of "Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp." The owner of the Marionette Theater was the man who played Howdy Duty and Bozo the Clown. We met them both. The show was excellent, and we sat right up front.

We visited the Orlando Science Center and spent the entire day there. It had six floors. The first floor had a nature center with alligators and turtles. It also had Kids Town  (hands-on). We watched three Cinedome IMAX movies: Wild Safari, Greece, and Star Quest. We went inside a vast mouth and walked through the walls of the digestive system. We went to the Dinosaur Center. There was a center with monster heads, electricity, and a space center. Then we went to the top, where there was a planetarium. It was a fun day.
Sunday, June 25, 2006

We went to Gatorland. There were alligators and crocodiles all around—big, small, and babies. Madison and Bucky held an alligator and a python snake. They had their picture taken while holding them. We watched Gator Wrestling, Later Jumparoo, and Close Encounters. We rode the train through the swamp area. There were all kinds of large birds nesting, as well as alligators. It started pouring rain.

2016 Nov 26, Christmas Adventue

A fun day with my sister-in-law.
Our first stop was the Athens Christmas tree trail, but they had only decorated one Christmas tree; it was too early for all the trees to be decorated.
My throat was dry, so we stopped at Chick-fil-A, where I bought a large iced tea.

Our next stop was the Tinsel Trail at Big Spring Park, where we saw a variety of differently decorated trees.
I don't know how many trees there are, but I took over 300 pictures.

Grover from Sesame Street

The sun was bright, but it was cold in the Shade.
Several times, we would come out of the Shade into the sun just to warm up.
We walked through the Tinsel Trail twice to ensure we didn't miss any trees.
We watched the ducks and fish swimming in the canal.

On our travels, we rode past Huntsville Hospital and the nearby shops.
From Governor's Drive, we took I-565, exiting onto Old Madison Pike and stopping at Bridge Street Centre.
I parked near Barnes & Noble, and we used their restrooms.
In the restroom, I met a woman from Madison, and we began a conversation.
I told her about touring the Tinsel Trail and all the beautiful Christmas Trees.
We talked for another 15 minutes after we left the restroom.
My sister-in-law had never visited the Bridge Street Town Centre.
We walked to the large man-made pond to see the Christmas displays and carousels.
We stopped at the Piper & Leaf Artisan Tea booth to taste the four different samples: Cherry Christmas, Caramel Apple Pie, Mistle Grove, and Pumpkin Moonshine Tea

Piper & Leaf Artisan Tea booth

At the Piper & Leaf Artisan Tea booth, I laughed and asked if the Pumpkin had authentic moonshine in it.
The young man said, 'You can add your own,' and then we both laughed.
My favorite sample was the Caramel Apple Pie.

We stopped to see the large Christmas tree near the Monaco Theater.
In front of the Christmas tree, a young girl was singing Christmas Carols, and children were running along the water's edge.
We listened to a couple of songs and walked back to the car.

A large Christmas tree is near the Monaco Theater.

We rode to  Historic Madison to drive past the Christmas Card Trail. Large handmade Cards are displayed in front of historic homes in Madison.
We were too tired to walk the trail. I snapped pictures of the Cards as I slowly drove past.

On our travel home, we stopped at Chick-fil-A in Athens. I ordered a kid's two-piece chicken meal to go. My sister-in-law had to wait for her food because they were preparing large trays of takeout orders.

We were headed west, going home with the sun shining in our eyes.
The thermometer in my car read 56 degrees.

Had a great day with my sister-in-law; the traffic was light.
This was the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so I  guess everyone went shopping on Black Friday. Glad we did not go on an adventure yesterday.

Tinsel Trail at Big Spring Park is located near the YMCA in Huntsville
Across the street is the rest of Big Spring Park, which is under Construction.

We heard Christmas music playing over the loudspeakers as we walked through Tinsel Trail.

It was a gorgeous day, and I needed the long walk in the park after all the Thanksgiving food.
It was a bit on the nippy side, but as the day progressed, it warmed up. But I still needed a light jacket, especially in the Shade.

I was home by 3:30 P.M., November 26, 2016

2000, Dec 23 & 24, A Family Christmas

2000 December 23 & 24 Christmas

Our family meets to enjoy a Christmas meal and exchange presents at my son's home.
Paper plates, paper cups, napkins, plastic spoons, and forks were placed at the end of the table, which was covered with a red tablecloth.

Everyone gathered around the table, blessings were said, and then everyone began filling their plates with food.

The Christmas dinner placed before us included a turkey, slices of honey-baked ham, cream potatoes, turkey dressing, cranberry slices, baked beans, and hot rolls fresh out of the oven.
Coconut and chocolate cake was our dessert.
Poured over ice were sweet tea, Mountain Dews, and Dr. Pepper

Their gifts were wrapped in Santa or Reindeer wrapping paper in all shapes and sizes under the Christmas Tree.
Wrapping paper lay in disarray as the children excitedly tore open their presents.

When all the excitement died down, Hannah read a bedtime story.
Elf for Christmas Oct 1, 1999
When Tingle, one of Santa's best workshop elves, is accidentally wrapped up with a toy airplane and delivered to a real, live boy on Christmas morning, the situation seems hopeless.
With Santa too far away to help, Tingle worries that he will be trapped in the humans' house forever. But when the courageous little elf comes up with an excellent, magical plan for escape, readers will find it hard to resist peeking ahead to see what happens. Tingle's thrilling journey back to the North Pole--as well as his joyous homecoming--have all the trappings of a Christmas classic.
The captivating illustrations by Michael Garland (author-illustrator of the best-selling picture book The Mouse Before Christmas) burst with color and movement. Infused with extravagant detail, warmth, and imagination, An Elf for Christmas will linger in the minds of readers long after all the ribbon and wrapping paper have been put away.

The next morning, we were served fried bacon, scrambled eggs, homemade biscuits, and chocolate gravy
After breakfast, the children enjoyed different forms of entertainment.
Dakota watched movies, and Sierra and Madison played indoor basketball.
Hannah played with her dolls in her doll-bordered bedroom.
After an enjoyable Christmas, I had a six-hour drive home, for I had to be at work on Tuesday Morning.

Merry Christmas to everyone and a Happy New Year to one and all
