2016 July 9, Saturday, Taking pictures around the Shoals Area

Today, I went to Chick-fil-a for a bagel with egg, cheese, and chicken. I also ordered 3 chicken Minnie with a large tea. I ate the three chicken Minnie without the bread. 

Then I rode to UNA to see the lions but they were not out I could hear them roaring. I did see several squirrels scurrying around the campus. They were looking for food and playing.  Crape Myrtles were in full bloom. It was fairly quiet, except for an occasional roar of the lions and the pitter-patter of squirrels, as I walked through the campus taking pictures

I  rode to W.C. Handy Home and Museum to take a few pictures outside. Outside the tin, men were playing their musical instruments, and the museum door patiently waiting to be unlocked at 10AM.

I next rode to McFarland where I discovered a Gaggle of Geese gathered on the sandy beach and I saw two men sitting quietly in their boat fishing. I could hear in the distance the construction on the O'Neal bridge, and I watched a couple of geese come in for a landing on the Tennessee River.

I  stopped at Kangaroo in Sheffield to fill up with gas. 
Then onto the railroad bridge where I took pictures while I walked to the end of the bridge and back. 
My next stop was Rock Pile Park where I saw another Gaggle of Geese, a  lot more geese than at McFarland Park. They began waddling towards me so I went back to the van for the bread left over from my chicken Minnie.

I waited until I was almost at the river before I gave the gaggle of geese the bread.
I then rode down to the Children's Playground area at the Rock Pile. There was a family of three there at the park, and the little girl was having fun playing. She came up to me and said hi, and she also told me by when I left.

I stopped at Visitors Over Look at TVA Dam where I could see the TVA Wilson Dam, the Tennessee River, the Marriott hotel, and the tower.

I rode across the Wilson Dam Bridge to River Heritage Park where I took a few pictures of Crape Myrtles that were in full bloom.

My last stop was Aldies to buy a few groceries. They had eggs for $.49 a dozen so I bought four dozen. I came home unloaded the groceries and took a nap

2016 Saturday, May 21, UNA Front Porch Storytelling Festival @UNA

Arrived early and got a seat in the front row.

9:30-10:00 We listened to Geraldine Buckley she talked about her life in Spain and giving spirits to a bunch of nuns.

10:00-10:30 We listened to Tim Lowry 

He talked about teaching Russian Immigrants and Gullah children English & their use of punctuation. 
He told us about how he introduced the Gullah children to the older Russians.
He told us about how a Russian woman changed the life of one of his students, and how he went from hating school to wanting to learn. 

10:45-12:00 We listened to Dolores Hydock tell her experience with meeting Doctor Ruth & Kathryn Tucker Windham.

12:00-1:30 Lunch

We ate lunch-I brought two peanut butter crackers, an orange, a banana, a box of cranberries, and bottled water.

My friend and I had a couple of women from Colorado sit with us.

They had traveled from Colorado, stopping in Arkansas to visit a friend, then traveled to Florence to listen to the storytellers. They were staying at Express Holiday Inn.

They had been to every show, including the evening events.

They were traveling to Birmingham where one of the women was taking the plane to Chicago. The other woman was driving to Atlanta to visit family. She was giving the car that she was driving to her grandson, then she was flying home to Colorado.

Dolores Hydock joined us for lunch. I gave her a peanut butter cracker and a box of cranberries. One of the other women gave her some fruit. We had a great time getting to know one another.

1:30-2:00 We listened to Geraldine Buckley talk about hitchhiking in Canada

2:00-2:30 We listened to Minton Sparks use Bayou singing to tell stories and she told a story about her grandmother. She was accompanied by John Jackson a guitarist.

2:30-3:00 We listened to Bil Lepp talked 

Both my friend and I had to leave during the 3:00PM break.

I had to be at my grandson’s wedding at 5:00PM.

2015 May 16 What door do I use?

A funny thing happened to me today
At the performance center, I had to go to the restroom
Was not sure where it was and ask my friend sitting next to me
She said I don't know,
But when you find it let me know.
I open the double doors leading outside the performance center
The restroom was straight
In front of me.
I used the restroom and started to return but, was not sure what door I came thru

I tried the door in front of me. It would not open!
I looked at the two kids sitting next to the door and said,
"Did I come thru this
Door?"
The 2 kids had this puzzled look on their faces.
I tried the door again.
I looked back at the 2 kids and said, "I guess u have to use the latch
to open the
Door.!
As I walked inside they probably
said,
"What was wrong with that woman!"
