2023 Dec 23, Early Works Museum Huntsville and Rogersville Christmas Trees in Heritage Park with granddaughter AVA

Today, we rode to Huntsville to take Ava to Early Works

The Grinch is guarding the big Red Door.

Warning: Trucks entering the Play Area
It was decorated for Christmas with Christmas trees in every corner. Inside the country store was the Grinch. Before we went inside, we saw an inflatable Grinch guarding the big red door. At the Country Store was a sign: The Grinch Cafe has been serving nauseating food since 1966."A cafe can be harmful in every way, but the food is worse."

A meal
 fit for a king

But Ava and her new friends made a meal fit for a king. One of Ava's friends said the meal was half Thanksgiving and Half Christmas.

We ate lunch at 88 Buffet. I had shrimp, fried Sweet potatoes, chicken, and Rangoon with cream cheese. I did not care much for the fish.

My plate: shrimp, chicken, fried sweet potatoes,  Sweet rolls, and
Rangoon

Ava ate a plate of fruit, jello, and Ice cream. She had been sick and was not eating much.

We stopped in Rogersville to see their Christmas Trees. This was our last stop.

2017 July 4, Tuesday, Day Trip to Huntsville, Alabama

Hubby and I rode into Florence to eat breakfast at Cracker Barrel. I ordered one scrambled egg, two slices of bacon, and two slices of sourdough toast with strawberry jelly. I also ate Hubby's fried apples.
Hubby ordered the big breakfast...
We traveled Highway 72 east to Rogersville, stopping at Foodland to pick up a couple of canned drinks.
We rode to Rogersville Park, where they had just installed a splash pad for kids.

In Huntsville, we rode through Providence Town Center, where we saw statues of Darth Vader and R2-D2 standing in front of the Mellow Mushroom Restaurant. (Characters from the Star Wars Trilogy)

I wanted to see the construction work where the Old Huntsville Mall was once located, so we rode there next.
The mall is gone, with its piping and wiring all dug up, leaving only dirt remaining.
No longer a mall
Next, we rode through the Twickenham District to Monte Sano Mountain.
We paid the admission price to enter the park and stopped at the restrooms at the campsite. We stopped at the overlook near the one-room CCC Museum, which was closed.

We stopped, and I took pictures of the Burritt Museum and Trough Springs Markers
We rode down the mountain onto Governors Drive, passing the Hospitals.
Next, we rode to Brahan Spring Recreation Center on Ivy Avenue Southwest.
We stopped at the park, where we saw the  Merrimack Marker.
The marker mentioned the Merrimack Manufacturing Co., the Huntsville Manufacturing Co., and Springs Industries Inc., from 1899 to 1991. It also mentioned the Merrimack School and the Joseph J. Bradley School, established in 1900 and 1967.
Next, we stopped at Brahan Spring Park for a few pictures and to use the restrooms.

We started home, stopping in Athens at Zaxby's to eat dinner.
I ordered boneless wings and a side salad. My husband ordered a boneless chicken wing meal.

We were home for about an hour when my husband got a call to go to work.
Another trip to Huntsville.
The job didn't take long, and we were home by 7 P.M.

My son, Andy, called and said, 'Mom, we're going to shoot fireworks at 8:30 P.M.' So, at 8:15 P.M., we rode to my son's house.
We sprayed ourselves with bug spray, grabbed our fold-out chairs, and off we rode to my son's house.
We had a great time with family, watching them shoot off fireworks.
These three bulldogs hated the sound of the fireworks, and we had a hard time keeping them away from chasing the fireworks.

We were home by 10 P.M., and both of us dropped into bed from exhaustion.

2006 October 28, Saturday, Renaissance Faire, Rogersville Festival, Nevada soccer game and Awards picnic

We parked at the Florence Library and walked to Wilson Park to attend the Renaissance Faire.
Sierra was wearing blue jeans with a yellow T-shirt and a black leather jacket lined with white fur, dotted with dalmatian spots.
She was wearing my jeweled scarf headdress.

Hubby was wearing a black leather jacket, and Nevada was wearing tan jeans and a black sweatshirt trimmed with yellow and white stripes.
He was wearing a brown leather jacket lined with tan fur and a ball cap with a skeleton face on the front.
It was a beautiful fall day, and there was still a chill in the air early that morning.
We walked along the sidewalk to Wilson Park, where we all enjoyed watching sword fighting, the sword walker, the blessing by the Enchanted Statue, Bubbles the Dragon, and many people dressed in medieval costumes. We also watched the belly dancers
We bought Nevada a sword, and Sierra a fan.

Next, we took the kids to the Rogersville Festival, where we walked around and the kids played on the bouncing inflatables.
We did not stay long because we had to be at Nevada's soccer game later that day.

We completed the day by attending Nevada's Soccer Game and Awards picnic.
Nevada played his best game, running and kicking the ball with his teammates.
It was a beautiful fall day with the sun shining on the ground, so we didn't get all muddy playing soccer.
After the game, the kids enjoyed treats, cupcakes, chips, and Cokes.
After the kids finished eating, each was given an award.

We spent the day with two of our grandchildren at the Renaissance Fair, the Rogersville Festival, and Nevada, where he played his last soccer game. It was time to take the kids home and then head out for a relaxing evening watching TV.

2013 ~Saturday, October 19,Spending the Day with Sierra & Madison

I sent both Madison and Sierra a text to ask them if they wanted to go to a fall festival at my sister's & to Rogersville's Heritage Days.
If you want to go, be ready by 11:00 A.M.
I picked up the girls and we headed to Rogersville for Heritage Days.
We could hear music playing and people singing as I parked the car in Fordland's parking lot.
We walked to Heritage Park, where they were having a chili cook-off that started at eleven A.M. We arrived at the park around eleven thirty, and the pots of chili were almost empty.

We asked for the area where our cups were for the chili, and the areas directed us to a table full of women selling tickets for $2.00.
I only had $5 in my pocket, so I paid the girl behind the table five dollars, and Madison and Sierra hurried back to the van to get some more money.
When the girls got back, Madison said, "Granny, I am a vegetarian," so the woman gave me back $1.00, which Madison then used to buy herself a Coke.
Sierra and I had our 4-ounce cups filled from all the different, delicious pots of chili.
Each vendor had a special receipt, making it hard to vote for the best.
I was beginning to get full of chili because the last pot I tried was made with sausage.
That was my favorite.

The car show had Mustangs, Camaros, Trucks, Chevrolet Blair, & Fairland, and many other cars were lined along the streets for people to view

The car that stood out the most to us was a Dodge Charger called the General Lee-01
Dodge Charger called the General Lee-0.1.
Next was the quilt. While I was not sure where it was located, I asked a woman walking along the street if she knew the location of the quilt show
She pointed toward the north of town, so the girls and I started walking that way.

Then I heard the woman holler and say the quilt show is not that direction, but east.
So the girls and I turned around and started walking down Lee Street. We walked past Rogersville Presbyterian Church in the USA, which was located at the corner of Lee Street and Dement Street. This church, over one hundred years old and dating back to 1889, holds the distinction of being the last surviving church in Rogersville, Alabama.

We kept thinking we were at the Methodischurch where they were having the quilt show, but to our amazement, it turned out to be a yard sale.

So, we turned around and walked back to the van. We then rode almost 3 more miles to the quilt show at Rogersville Methodist Church, 701 Turner Lindsey Rd, Rogersville.
As we entered the chur, we were handed gloves because they did not want to touch their quilts without handwashing.

Hanging on display were many different types, sizes, textures, designs, and thicknesses, all created either by hand or machine.
Some of the names describing the quilts were: A Flag Quilt, Alabama Quilt, He is Risen Quilt, Log Cabin Quilt, Giant Dahlia Quilt, Crazy Quilt, and Exploring the Stars Quilt. I could go on, and on; they were just beautiful.

We stopped at Foodland in Killen, and I bought a sweet potato pie to take to the fall festival at my sister's.

An October festival is a yearly activity that my sister and brother-in-law have.
They put a lot of time and money into making this a place for friends and family to come and enjoy.

They have built a large shelter that houses about 12 picnic tables, seating over a hundred people. At the end of the shelter is a large fireplace. They have also built a building that houses a toilet.

October can be warm or cold, and on this particular day, it was a bit breezy.
A Cozy fire was burning in the fireplace,, and many peoplewere huddled next toit,e, trying to keep warm.
Vicki had gone to her house and brought back several jackets for people to wear to keep warm.

In the distance, you could see a large garden of turnip greens, surrounded by an electric fence to keep out critters.

When we got out of our van, we could smell food cooking.
There was chicken stew boiling on an open fire, sweet potatoes baking, and lots of green beans, peas, turnip greens, and hot dogs on the grill.
There were three tables filled with desserts, paper plates, cups, spoons, forks, dip, chips, bread, and drinks. It was hard to decide what to put on your plate first because there was such a variety of food, so you just started filling it.

People were eating, talking, kids playing, others still cooking, and everyone was having a great time.

One of the fun things that we do every year is taking a hayride deep into the woods.
The kids really enjoy this. We have to duck many times to avoid the low branches and boulders that we pass.
Another fun thing that we do is to bob for apples. The kids enjoy this very much and get very wet doing it.
Another fun thing we do is a sack race. The kids are falling down and getting up, trying to be the first to the finish line.
After getting our bellies full, having a fun time on the hayride, and saying goodbye, we head back to the van.

It has been a lovely October day, a bit breezy, and I spent it with two of my beautiful granddaughters.
The girls look at me and say, "Thanks,  Grannyy, we had a wonderful time with you today".

That just touched my heart, knowing they still have fun with Granny.
