2023 Dec 8, Moulton on the Square Moulton, AL "CHRISTMAS"

We left Cullman, traveling on Highway 157 toward Moulton

We always attend Moulton on the Square, but this year, the festival was held at the Lions Club Fairgrounds due to ongoing renovations at the old courthouse.

A large crowd was already there enjoying the festival.

The entrance to the Christmas Festival

We saw several displays and places to stop for photos.

We saw Santa Claus talking to the children.

Vendors selling their wares.

The smell of food filled the air.

We enjoyed Tiny Hiney's Petting Zoo, where we saw goats, sheep, a llama, a Kangaroo, a cow, and a pony.

Each animal was wearing Christmas attire.

Pony dressed in Red

As we left, the snow machine began to fill the air with snow. The children enjoyed the snow falling on their faces.

2018 Dec 15, Leipers Fork Christmas Parade Leipers Fork, Tennessee

My Hubby and I rode to Leipers Fork to attend the Christmas Parade; it was one of the biggest crowds I had ever seen.
The crowd at Leipers Fork Parade
John Snider(Bo Duke) from The Dukes of Hazzard was the Grand Marshal. John rode atop a replica of the Bright Orange General Lee #1 from the Dukes of Hazzard Show (1979-85).
Followed by the Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane's Police Car.
John Snider, Grand Marshal
Kid Rock came riding in a White Car that had a bullhorn on the front grill, packing guns on both sides of the car. The backside of the tire covering was Hank Jr. Kick Rocks & Michigan Plates 64 Nudie with a shotgun, horses, and horseshoes on the trunk, fenders, and bumper.
The kid was dressed in White, trimmed in gold, and wearing a black hat, drinking a Cooler Light beer.
The guy from American Pickers came riding in the parade in a Polaris Jeep.

We saw a Grinch
Cindy Lou-Who
Santa Claus in his sleigh with Reindeer
Hubby and I stopped at Jack's Restaurant in Lawrenceburg for breakfast. I ordered a sausage-and-cheese biscuit.
Hubby ordered a big breakfast.
We arrived at Leipers Fork around 11:00 A.M., set up our chairs, and walked around taking pictures and talking to local shop owners.
The Christmas Ball hanging from the ceiling at one of the local stores, also in the attic area, was a Manger Scene.
People had already set up a chair in front of Pucketts Grocery, a local restaurant.

There were several portlets set up, but not near enough for the crowd.
Where we sat were a couple of firepits with marshmallows and graham crackers to make s'mores.
It was nice to sit by the fire; it was an overcast day with temperatures in the 50s, with some sun.
At the portlets, I met a woman who was building a house in the Leipers Fork area. She said we have 2 dogs and 2 cats, and they were renting in the Nashville area but were originally from Atlanta, GA.
I also met a woman wearing a Mad Hatter hat; she was covered in Christmas rope, bells, and balls.
She gave me and the woman next to me a bell. I tied my bell on my tennis shoe, and everywhere I went, I would hear bells. I forgot it was me who was ringing.
I met a family from near Dickson, TN. She said she was an artist, and he was a landscaper (from Nashville until he married). They had two children and had never attended the Leipers Fork Parade. I told them they were in for a treat. They were waiting to eat at a local restaurant when the parade began; they came and stood nearby. The man said that after they ate, the kids rode horses in the fields, and there they saw Kid Rock.
The little girl said she wanted one of the bears that were going to be thrown out during the parade. Both she and her brother caught two each.
They left after the bears were thrown out.
My Hubby and I both made s'mores, but they were a real mess. The parade began around 2:30 P.M. and lasted until about 4:00 P.M., just after sunset, as it was starting to get dark. The cleanup crew began cleaning up all the debris left by the parade and the crowd. Hubby and I sat by the fire pit as we watched a steady stream of cars leave the grass-filled parking area.
A young man stoked the fire, and we warmed our hands and bodies.
A man with his daughter was warming up at the fire pit. We were discussing the Shoals area where we were from, and the man mentioned that he had a friend who played in a band that performed at the Shoals Marriott.
We finally braved the traffic and began our travel home.
At 5:22 P.M., we stopped at Panda Express in Spring Hill.
End of the parade, and the sun was setting.
We ordered broccoli and beef, honey walnut shrimp, orange chicken, chow mein, egg roll, and 3 cream cheese Rangoon.
We ordered broccoli and beef, honey walnut shrimp, orange chicken, chow mein, egg roll, and 3 cream cheese Rangoon.

At 7 P.M., we stopped at Big Lots in Lawrenceburg for some bread and Archway gingerbread cookies.
(I love me some gingerbread cookies) We bought three bags and a bag of Archway gingersnaps
We were home around 7:30, took a hot shower, put on my pajamas, crawled into my warm bed, turned on the TV, and were asleep in no time.
Hubby had a great day; it was a little on the cool side, overcast, and the sun tried to sneak out a few times. Saw John Snider, Kid Rock, and the guy from American Pickers. Made a few new friends, ate some good food, and had a safe trip home.

🦋🦋🦋2016 September 8, Friday, Butterflies and Scarecrows in the Garden

Looked out my window this morning, and I saw a chipmunk scurrying around looking for food.
I grabbed my cell phone to take a video, but the chipmunk was as quick as lightning. I did get a few pictures.
I filled the hummingbird feeders with sweet, red, Nectar.
They watched me from afar and waited until I went inside to start feeding.
The hummingbirds are very territorial and will run off any other hummingbird trying to get Nectar from their feeder.
I put sunflowers in my regular bird feeders.
Hibiscus
Flowers still blooming
Stopped at my son's house to give Ava Grace a Happy Meal toy, apple slices, apple juice, and her bottle full of milk she had left a few days earlier in the week.

Stopped at the Post Office in Rogersville to buy postage stamps (with trucks on them) and mail two birthday cards.
Stopped at the UPS store to mail a package.

Stopped at Chick-fil-A in Athens, where I bought a kid a two-piece chicken finger meal with a fruit cup, two fingers, ice cream, honey mustard sauce, and diet Coke for lunch.

My first stop was the Hobbit House, his door was shut tightly.
Hobbit House
Our Hobbit House is inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien's book The Hobbit. Hobbits, also referred to as Hal-flings are small in size, have slightly pointed ears, are stout in stature, and have large feet. The life in houses that are built into the ground. They usually have round doors, like ours. Hobbits like to garden socialize and eat up to six meals a day if they can.

Climb in settle down, and experience a birds-eye view in this larger-than-life bird nest. Birds, build nests from a variety of found materials, including sticks, grass, mud, feathers, horse hair, and even string. Northern Mockingbirds, Brown Thrashers, Northern Cardinals, Grey Catbirds, Blue Jay, American Crow, Bald Eagles, and Osprey build round nests with sticks, like this one.
Next, I saw a larger-than-life bird nest.
I walked into the bird's home and touched the egg.
My next stop was the train village and there were scarecrows scattered throughout the town.

Labyrinths and mazes have been a part of gardens since the time of England's King Arthur. Some of the World's most famous castles even have mazes.
Building a maze is harder than it looks, but we've given you everything you need to get started within the walls of our Maze Garden.

I went inside the butterfly house where I saw three turtles sunning on a bolder.
There was a Space Garden and a Dinosaur Garden.

A short story about Friendship

What created the dark cloud?

Billy and John had been best friends since grade school. Everywhere you saw Billy, you saw John.
Billy was a tall, lanky boy with straight yellow hair. Billy wore a size twelve dress shoe, a white button-down shirt, and black slacks.
John was a tall, stocky boy with straight, unkempt hair, and he always wore boots. His feet were small for his size, and the bottoms of his shoes were covered with dead bugs. If John ever saw a bug, he would follow it. Smash! It was dead!
For twelve years, the boys rode their bicycles to school. In the summer, both boys worked as lifeguards. Once, John saved a petite, red-haired, freckled-faced girl from drowning. John's father owned the local hardware store.
Jones and Jones Hardware had been in the family for many generations, offering a variety of home and garden items.
While Billy's father was a partner in the local bank called the Smith and Barnes Branch Bank of NY. Billy's father and John's father were well-liked and very active in the community.
After graduation, Billy went away to Harvard to study law, and John went to Cornell to study Agriculture.
Cornell is one of two private land-grant universities.
After John earned his PhD in Agriculture, he returned home to begin his career, but he was not sure whether he wanted to teach at the university or plant his feet in the soil of farming.
Meanwhile, his best friend, whom he had not seen or heard from in years, was working for one of the top law firms in New York.
Billy now goes by the name of William James Smith III, Attorney at Law.
John worked with large farms, helping them secure government grants. Billy hated what he called 'second-class citizens' and did everything he could to harm them. The Blue Collar worker, he called them!
John had gone to Washington, DC, to get a bill passed to help the farmers.
While debating his bill in the Senate, John saw Billy, now called William James Smith II, I, Attorney at Law, sitting on the opposing side.
Before that day ended, John and Billy would become mortal enemies. The harder John fought to pass the bill for the farmers, the more Billy fought to block it. Billy was acting as if he never knew John, making John look like an ass in front of his peers.
John wanted to take a gun and blow Billy's brains out right there on the Senate floor.
The debate went on for several days, bickering back and forth; finally, the farm bill passed the Senate. But needless to say, Billy and John became mortal enemies.
It was like they were living on opposite sides of life's fence. How could someone whom you had grown up with and spent endless days playing together have changed?
How could this be? When did they change?
By the end of the debate, a dark void, emptiness, had fallen over both men. A dark cloud followed both men as they left Washington, D.C.

Sally's Distrust
Greenport, NY, a town where fresh air does wonders for the appetite, no smog, no pollution, and the only thing you carry to school is your lunch.
Greenport extends its arm to Gardiners Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, offering sailing, swimming, boating, and fishing.
Sally's dad was a sailboat designer, and his love of sailing won him many sailing contests.
On Sundays, John's dad would close his hardware store to go fishing on his sizable boat.

Mr. Smith was a man of leisure, and he enjoyed his luxury yacht. This was Billy's dad.

So, as you can see, many hours were spent at Gardiners Bay or on the Atlantic Ocean, where
Sally, Bill, and Johngrew up.
Billy was the number one quarterback at Greenport High School, and their team was the number one football team in the state.
Sally had been a cheerleader since she could walk and was always cheering for Billy.   John was a reporter for the high school newspaper.
To get his foot in the door at the Suffolk Times, John would get up early every morning to deliver their newspapers, as he aspired to be a reporter. But that was not to be!

Seems like yesterday as John sits at his office desk listening to Sally on the telephone.
Sally was not a gossip but liked to know what was going on in her hometown.

Sally received a scholarship to study at Harvard in Cambridge, MA, where she earned her PhD in Education and went on to teach History.

Sally had married while they were at Harvard.
After Billy passed the bar exam, he started his own law firm in Cambridge, and he and Sally began a family with two sons, Thomas and another boy.
The next twelve flew by, and everyone was happy.
One day, Billy received a telephone call offering him a partnership at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, the most prestigious law firm in New York City.
Billy accepted without asking Sally. Sally was upset!
Billy commuted back and forth from Cambridge to New York City for many years.
There were many parties, long hours, and many nights without coming home, and these were the times that Sally called John.
John really enjoyed talking to Sally, but hated the sound of her voice as she spoke of Billy. John began to develop a dislike for Billy's lifestyle. Was this when the cloud appeared, or was John secretly in love with Sally?

Sally's passion for History got her a scholarship from History South Africa. She would be helping and observing the ways of life of the people in Africa, especially the children.
Her plans were to live in Africa for one year.
Sally was delighted about her upcoming trip and could not wait to tell John.
Sally and Billy had been estranged for many years, and their boys were now rambunctious teenagers.
Her sons, Sam and Thoma, were thrilled about living in Africa.
Both boys loved creatures, both great and small, especially the endangered animals.
The family would be leaving at the end of the boy's school term, which ended May 30.
March was a bitterly cold month, and Sally had just a couple of months to make sure that she and her boys had everything they needed for their upcoming trip.
They would need several shots to prevent diseases and passports for travel, which sometimes can take several months to receive.
Sally was going to miss her weekly calls to John.
Sally secretly hoped that John would accept the position the university was offering.
Cambridge University wanted to send someone with a PHD in farming to Africa.
They wanted to teach the local people to farm and harvest their vegetables using irrigation.
John had just received a package from Cambridge inviting him to join the farming research in Africa.
Sally had said that she was going to Africa to teach, and her boys would be there to help whoever went on the farming scholarship.
Would John have enough time to get his passport & shots and fly to Africa with Sally and the boys?
John was troubled about making the right decision.
Should he go or should he stay? His mind was muddled right now; he should probably sleep on that thought.
John did not want Sally and the boys to go alone.
He knew she could take care of herself, for she had taken several self-defense classes, and the boys were big and strong.
John loved farming, the environment, and people.
This would be an excellent opportunity for him.
John could experiment with his new farming techniques on fertile and infertile soil.
John would receive a grant from Cambridge while also keeping his current position.
John tossed all night, thoughts running through his mind.
The sun came streaming into his bedroom window. It was time to get up.
John had made his decision.

Going to Africa
John was on his way to Africa along with Sally and the boys.
Living in Africa would be very different from living in the States, but they were all up for the challenge.
The African children were thrilled to meet the boys, and the boys fit right in.
The boys could speak many foreign languages, and most of the African children could speak some English.
No more suits and ties, Burma shorts and T-shirts. This was the life!
They would believe the Atlantic Ocean, and the boys loved swimming, fishing, and surfing. Fun in the sun all day, but first the boys had to do their chores.
Living in Africa would be hard work because there was no modern farm equipment to use.
The boys did not mind as long as they could spend their free time at the beach.
John spent long hours planning his teaching techniques for the locals.
Sally spent most of he time getting the small schoolhouse ready for the children.
Sally would not only be in History, but also in many other subjects
The children would have to share a book, for Sally had not brought enough books to go around.
No, I Pads here!
In the distance, the sounds of gunshots and missiles
In many parts of Africa, there was violence.
Hopefully, the rebels would not come within distance of where they were living.
The rebels hate Americans and Europeans.
It could be fatal if one were captured by the rebels.
The big cats have been driven out of their land, and farmers have found the carcasses of their cattle and goats.
The big cats had not harmed humans yet!
The rainy season had begun, and many animals had started migrating toward the once-dried-up water hole, which was now overflowing.
Now was the right time to start planting crops.
Out of the blue, Sally's husband Billy appeared!
What was he doing here?
This was so out of character for Billy!
Billy always wore a suit, but wait, what was he wearing?
Had Billy come to stay?
Had Billy come to ask Sally for a divorce?
Did Billy know that John was here with his wife?
What a dilemma for John!
