Chapter 2 of Sally’s Distrust ~Story for Workshop

Chapter 2

Greenport, NY, a town where fresh air does wonders for the appetite, no smog, no pollution, and the only thing you carry to school is your lunch.
Greenport extends its arms to Gardiners Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, offering sailing, swimming, boating, and fishing.
Sally's dad was a sailboat designer, and his love of sailing won him many sailing contests.
On Sundays, John's dad would close his hardware store so he could go fishing on his sizable fishing boat.

Mr. Smith was a man of leisure, and he enjoyed his luxury yacht. This was Billy's dad.

So, as you can see, many hours were spent at Gardiners Bay or on the Atlantic Ocean, where
Sally, Billy, and John grew up.
Billy was the number one quarterback at Greenport High School, and their team was the number one football team in the state.
Sally had been a cheerleader since she could walk and had always cheered for Billy. John was a reporter for the high school newspaper.
To get his foot in the door at Suffolk Times, John would get up early every morning to deliver their newspapers, for he thought he wanted to be a reporter. However, that was not to be!
Where had all the years gone, thought John as he listened to Sally on the telephone.
Sally was not a gossip but liked to know what was going on in her hometown.

Sally received a scholarship to study at Harvard in Cambridge, MA, where she earned her Ph.D. in Education and later taught History.

Sally had married Billy while they were at Harvard.
After Billy passed the bar exam, he started his own law firm in Cambridge, and he and Sally began a family, two boys, & Thomas.
The next twelve flew by, and everyone was happy.
One day, Billy received a telephone call offering him a partnership at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, the most prestigious law firm in New York City.
Billy accepted without asking Sally. Sally was upset!
Billy commuted back and forth from Cambridge to New York City for many years.
There were many parties, long hours, and many nights without coming home, and these were the times that Sally called John.

John really enjoyed talking to Sally, but hated the sound of her voice as she spoke of Billy. John began to develop a bitter taste for Billy's lifestyle. Was this when the cloud appeared, or was John secretly in love with Sally?

The New York Times short story for workshop

Mr. Jones worked for the New York Times. He was a very ambitious employee who would stop at nothing to get ahead.
Employees are scurrying everywhere, trying to meet deadlines. Newspapers are flying, ink is drying, and employees are using harsh tones.

Every day is a new adventure in the newspaper business, but today is especially different because they are getting a new president for the whole company.
No one knows who he or she will be.

Employees are whispering among themselves. Who will be our new President? How will his position affect my job?
In addition, the position of VP is opening up, and many are in the running, including Mr. Jones.

Several members of upper management are gathered in the new President's office to greet him and discuss who his new VP will be, but Mr. Jones is not invited.

Many employees are gathered in the break room, discussing who the new VP will be. Jane, (secretary to the former VP) said she overheard that they were going to hire Mr. Frank Smith, former VP of Southern Living.

Mr. Jones desperately wanted to be the new VP for the New York Times, but for them to go outside the company and hire Mr. Frank Smith was unbearable.
How he wished he had not eavesdropped on his co-workers and heard the news, he was just livid.
Mr. Jones had worked for Mr. Smith at Southern Living Magazine, and he was a tyrant to work for.
Mr. Jones was sick to his stomach with anger. How could they! How could they!

The next morning, Mr. Jones, Mr. Smith, and two other employees were called into the President's office. Besides President Brown, there were several members of upper management. President Brown said, We have discussed among ourselves, and we have decided to make, but before he could speak, Mr. Jones blacked out, falling onto the floor in a heap.

When he opened his eyes, he was lying in President Brown's office on the sofa. President Brown said, Mr. Jones, are you ok? We have something to tell you. You are our new VP, again. Mr. Jones blacked out.

Time Travel

My thoughts have been about time moving forward and backward.  So Time travel is not something we think about. It is just something we do....
