2021 Sep 26, Day Trip to Huntsville Botanical Gardens Huntsville, Alabama

Arrived at 11 AM just as the gardens were opening. My first stop was the Purdy Butterfly Gardens where I saw several Gulf Fritillary Butterflies, red-spotted Admiral butterflies, Zebra Long-wing butterflies, monarch butterflies, great southern white butterflies, the white peacock butterflies, and the common buckeye butterflies. I spotted several Blue Jays and heard a woodpecker but never saw it. I also heard several other species of birds and saw a snake as I was coming out of the wooded area. I walked through the vegetable garden where I saw just a few including one big orange pumpkin and a few vines with fruit dangling on them.
I saw the fruit of Japanese Persimmons hanging on the trees. On the tree next to them was a thorny tree with Trifoliate orange fruit hanging on it. I also saw lying on the ground an osage orange, so you can see there was plenty of fruit for the animals. I spotted a praying mantis on a small limb. I saw several turtles swimming and lying along the bank of the pond.
I saw pink and purple blooming asters and mums of purple. I even spotted a pink rose. I spotted a gray heron and several turtles lying on the bank near the butterfly house. Uncaged: Birds, Nature & You along with Night Blooms still fill the gardens.
Some of the scarecrows that I saw were: Santa’s Helper, Mr. Antsy Pants, Zooey the ZooKeeper, It's a Girl Scout Vibe, Frida Kahlo, The Scarecrow Dietitian, Terry Lewis “Herb’s wife:/Herb the Birdman, Papa’s Pumpkins, Mr. Crow the Birdwatcher, Dog Day Bride, Collaborative Carl, We can do the job, Snow Fairy, Betelgeuse Scary Spirit, Sir Night fo make it right, Faith, Service, Diversity, Page Turner, Autumn, Larry If I only had a spaceship, Rooted,

I saw several people in line to go into the park as I was leaving. I spotted a lady with a Nikon camera so, I walked up to her and told her where I had seen the heron and all the butterflies that were not inside the Purdy Butterfly House. She asked me about my camera and I said I had been taking pictures for many years. She said she had just started with her new camera. It started out a cool morning by afternoon it was hot. I walked back to the car ate the bowl of nuts and the diet Sprite that I had brought and rested a few minutes before starting the hour-and-a-half drive home. That morning I had stopped at Wheeler Dam to see the waterfowl. There were several people fishing and more coming to fish. I asked a young man about the waterfowl and he said there were a few but a couple of days back they were more than he had ever seen there. I guess I miss them. I did get a couple of shots of a heron catching a fish.

2021 April 17, Mooresville Walking Tour and Huntsville Botanical Gardens

It was a great turnout at Mooresville for I had to park along the side of the road and walk several blocks.
We began at the Post Office which closed at 10 AM so if you wanted to go inside you had to be there by 9:45 AM.
We saw a couple of churches, a tavern, and several homes, and our guide talked about the history of the small town.
We saw a beautiful little cottage that is now Lyla’s Little House of Mooresville. “All the sweet that’s fit to eat!”
Stage Coach Stop

Brick Church
The brick church had been owned by several different denominations but was now owned by the town and used for weddings and town hall meetings. We walked inside the Brick Church the Post Office and the Tavern. Our guide passed out several booklets on Historic Mooresville's Bicentennial Est 1818 but ran out. It was a nice day for the tour a little cool but warmed up quickly. I left before it ended because I couldn't hold it in any longer. I stopped at Cracker Barrel in Madison to use the restroom.

My next stop was the Botanical Gardens. I first went to the Butterfly house and saw one butterfly, a few turtles, and several children. I was so thirsty that I bought an orange crush drink and finished it off before I left the gardens.
Walked through the Children's Garden to the newly built Birdwatching building. Meet a man there who was building a new home and was getting ideas for his lawn. (shrubs, flowers, and such). Had a nice relaxing visit to the Huntsville Botanical Gardens?
Field of Wildflowers
Squirrel
I strolled through the wooded area along the paths less taken. I saw several Robin Redbreast, rabbits, and squirrels. As I was walking near the pond I saw lots of turtles sunbathing. Yellow and White Wildflowers were blooming everywhere they were so pretty. I also walked through the herb garden.
I had a great day but was tired from all that walking and I still had to drive an hour or more home.

2016 Nov 26, Christmas Adventue

A fun day with my sister-in-law.
Our first stop was the Athens Christmas tree trail but they had only decorated one Christmas tree, too early for all the trees to be decorated.
My throat was dry so we stopped at Chick-fil-A where I bought a large Ice tea.

Our next stop was the Tinsel Trail at Big Spring Park, where we saw a variety of differently decorated trees.
Not sure how many trees but I took over 300 pictures.

Grover from Sesame Street

The sun was bright but it was cold in the Shade.
Several times we would come out of the shade into the sun just to warm up.
We walked through Tinsel Trail twice to make sure we did not miss any trees.
We watched the ducks and fish swimming in the canal.

On our travels, we rode past Huntsville Hospital and the nearby shops.
From Governor's Drive, we took I-565, exiting onto Old Madison Pike and stopping at Bridge Street Centre.
I parked near Book-a-million, and we used their restrooms.
In the restroom, I met a woman from Madison, and we began a conversation.
I told her about touring the Tinsel Trail and all the beautiful Christmas Trees.
We talked for another 15 minutes after we left the restroom.
My sister-in-law had never visited Bridge Street Town Centre.
We walked to the large man-made pond to see the Christmas displays and carousels.
We stopped at the Piper & Leaf Artisan Tea booth to taste the four different samples Cherry Christmas, Caramel Apple Pie, Mistle Grove, and Pumpkin Moonshine Tea.

Piper & Leaf Artisan Tea booth

At the Piper & Leaf Artisan Tea booth, I laughed, and said did the Pumpkin have real moonshine in it?
The young man said you can add your own, then we both laughed.
My favorite sample was the Caramel Apple Pie.

We stopped to see the Large Christmas tree near Monaco Theater.
In front of the Christmas tree was a young girl singing Christmas Carols and children were running along the water edge.
We listened to a couple of songs and walked back to the car.

Large Christmas tree near Monaco Theater.

We rode to  Historic Madison to drive past the Christmas Card Trail. Large handmade Cards are displayed in front of historic homes in Madison.
We were too tired to walk the trail.  I snapped pictures of the Cards as I slowly drove past.

On our travel home, we stopped at Chick-fil-A in Athens. I ordered a kid's two-piece chicken meal to-go. My sister-in-law had to wait for her food because they were preparing large trays of orders to go.

We were headed west going home with the sun shining in our eyes.
The thermometer in my car read 56 degrees.

Had a great day with my sister-in-law, the traffic was light.
This was the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so I  guess everyone went shopping on Black Friday. Glad we did not go on an adventure yesterday.

Tinsel Trail at Big Spring Park is located near the YMCA in Huntsville.
Across the street is the rest of Big Spring Park which is under Construction.

We heard Christmas music playing through loudspeakers overhead as we walked through Tinsel Trail.

It was a gorgeous day and I needed the long walk in the park, after all the Thanksgiving food.
It was a bit on the nippy side but as the day progressed it warmed up but still needed a light jacket, especially in the shade.

Was home by 3:30PM.  November 26, 2016

Hubby ordered the big breakfast...
We traveled Highway 72 east to Rogersville stopping at Foodland to pick up a couple of canned drinks.
We rode to Rogersville's Park where they had just installed a splash pad for kids.

In Huntsville, we rode through Providence Town Center where we saw Darth Vader and R2D2 statues standing in front of Mellow Mushroom Restaurant. (Characters from the Star Wars Trilogy)

I wanted to see the construction work, where the Old Huntsville Mall was once located, so we rode there next.
The mall is gone, piping and wiring all and dug up, with only dirt remaining.
No longer a mall
Next, we rode through the Twickenham District to Monte Sano Mountain.
We paid the admission price to enter the park, stopping at the restrooms at the campsite. We stopped at the overlook, near the one-room CCC Museum which was closed.

We stopped and I took pictures of the Burritt Museum and Trough Springs Markers.
We rode down the mountain onto Governors Drive passing the Hospitals.
Next, we rode to Brahan Spring Recreation Center on Ivy Avenue Southwest.
We stopped at the park where we saw the  Merrimack Marker.
The marker told about the Merrimack Manufacturing Co., the Huntsville Manufacturing Co., and Springs Industries Inc., 1899 1991. It also told about the Merrimack School & the Joseph J. Bradley School 1900 and 1967.
Next, we stopped at Brahan Spring Park for a few pictures and to use the restrooms.

We started home, stopping in Athens at Zaxby's to eat dinner.
I ordered boneless wings and a side salad. Hubby ordered a boned chicken wings meal.

Side Salad
We were home for about an hour when hubby got a call out to work.
Another trip to Huntsville.
The job did not take long and we were home by 7PM.

My son, Andy called and said Mom we are going to shoot fireworks at 8:30PM so at 8:15PM we rode to my son's house.
We sprayed ourselves with bug spray grabbed our fold-out chairs and off we rode to my son's house.
We had a great time with family watching them shoot off fireworks.
These three bulldogs hated the sound of the fireworks and we had a hard time keeping them away from chasing the fireworks.

We were home by 10PM both of us dropped into bed from exhaustion.

🦋🦋🦋2016 September 8, Friday, Butterflies and Scarecrows in the Garden

Looked out my window this morning, and I saw a chipmunk scurrying around looking for food.
I grabbed my cell phone to take a video, the chipmunk was quick as lighting. I did get a few pictures.
I filled the hummingbird feeders with sweet, red, Nectar.
They watched me from afar and waited until I went inside to start feeding.
The hummingbirds are very territorial and will run off any other hummingbird trying to get nectar from their feeder.
I put sunflowers in my regular bird feeders.

Flowers still blooming
Stopped at my son's house to give Ava Grace a Happy Meal toy, apple slices, apple juice, and her bottle full of milk she had left a few days earlier in the week.

Stopped at the UPS store to mail a package.

Our Hobbit House is inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien's book The Hobbit. Hobbits, also referred to as Hal-flings are small in size, have slightly pointed ears, are stout in stature, and have large feet. The life in houses that are built into the ground. They usually have round doors, like ours. Hobbits like to garden socialize and eat up to six meals a day if they can.
